All this competition over me is going to go to my head.

You may have noticed that I haven't posted about what I'm doing out here recently. My appointment as Corporal of the guard was only a month, yet I haven't commented about going back to security. Well, the reason for this is anything but simple. At the beginning of this month I was extended for another month as Corporal of the Guard, something my platoon didn't like too much. There was some controversy about it, and they tried to recall me back against the wishes of the battalion, but of course this did not work. I thought it was all laid to rest a few days ago and settled into another month as the CoG. In the meantime, yesterday Lt. Reed (our platoon commander and a really great guy) saw me at the guard booth and stopped to talk. He, of course, asked what I was still doing there and I told him the story. This is when he mentions to me that they are short handed with the impending transfer of Ramos (see previous post). I responded that I was sorry to hear that and that I was really looking forward to coming back to security and running missions at the end of the month.

So who do I bump into today at dinner, but Lt. Reed. Of course he was eager to get his Mongolian Barbecue (Friday is always Mongolian night, and although I am a fan this man loves the stuff more than anyone). Never the less, he drops everything and comes over to tell me that he has put in a formal request to the Executive Officer to get me back to security. This really surprised me because filing a request like this is a big deal. He stressed that the situation is out of his hands now, and the XO can deny the request and his word is final, but the fact that my presence is being demanded like this is incredible to me. The fact that some time tomorrow there's going to be a meeting all about me, with the XO presiding is really flattering, but also a little hard for me to believe. I'm excited to find out what happens, but in all honesty I will be happy either place so long as I do eventually go back to security next month.
